Dear all (and I do mean all),
My personal email address (alex @ alexbremer . com) has at last been "spoofed". Hurrah!
What does this mean?
Well, it means that thousands of people, all over the world, are right now receiving emails purporting to be from me (they're not). These emails are gleefully extolling the virtues of weight loss pills (how do they know???) and pills that will increase the size of my old fella (again - how do they know???), as well as propagating various invidious computer programmes...
Several of you can look forward to receiving an example of one of these missives in due course...
The real problem here (apart from more people than usual cursing my good name) is that there is a real danger of my domain name being banned (I will no longer be able to send any email at all from this domain).
How has this happened?
Quite simply, these things happen as a result of the endless series of chain emails that get sent round the 'net, and invariably get forwarded to me by some helpful soul (you all know who you are), keen to know that Bill Gates will give me $10,000 (if I'm as gullible as the 20 people I'm asked to forward this email to...), or some other essential piece of information. What happens is that these emails will eventually find their way back to the unscrupulous soul who started the whole thing off in the first place, and who will harvest the returning message for all the email addresses that have been left "in plain view". He or she can then add my address to their database of those ripe for receiving spam, or to be "spoofed"...
NB: There are other ways of becoming victim of spoofing (such as viruses and the like), but we know that I was "gotten" as a result of being included in chain emails...
How can we stop this happening?
Look - it's too late for me - I'm done for (go on without me... etc...)! But there are simple and easy steps that I urge you ALL to start taking whenever you send or forward an email. If you really really have to tell us all about some get-rich-quick scheme, or get us to sign up to a petition against headless children in Guatemala, then just strip out ALL the email addresses in the body of the email, and BCC (Blind Carbon Copy - VIEW >> BCC FIELD >> in the menu bar of Outlook) all the people you're forwarding onto (NB: Obviously this only applies to so called "chain emails"; a normal CC is perfect for continuing email conversations between a group of interested parties).
This is simple email etiquette, but hardly anybody ever does it.
Moreover - For all of you experiencing the delights of (receiving) spam, you should know that Jack and I at 3B have a number of extraordinarily effective wheezes at our disposal. We're now able to filter out just about every unwelcome message long before it gets anywhere near your computer, Blackberry or hand-held device. Call us to discuss further...
All the very best...

The new London Olympics logo - what are they thinking?!?
The morons!!! They had a great logo - really classy and relevant to the London Olympics... now the brand-obsessed muppets have spent God-knows how much of their fragile budget on this retched mess!
